Method to My Madness

About a week and a half ago I mentioned that I had made some major changes in the way I handle my glyph business. Well, that post is finally here, sorry it's so late! To avoid this post getting really long I'm going to post it in multiple parts.. Here's Part One..

When I started out in the glyph business, I had two bank alts. One I did all of my purchasing on and miscellaneous selling, the other I just used for glyphs. Well, I soon realized that if you only have one alt that posts glyphs, bag space is going to be a major issue. It's also a PITA to spend that much time at the mailbox. I also pretty much had to stick my entire inventory on the AH to avoid having to make runs to the guild bank. (I work in Exodar.. the run from the AH to the bank is -not- cool.) Another problem was I would always miss out on "prime time" where everyone is either getting ready for raids or buying gems and enchants for their new gear. I would miss out on it because I was always on my main, doing the same thing lol.

When I heard that mmo-chumpion was going to release an inscription guide, I -knew- I had to make a change, and that change was to make 3 alts on my second account. The only thing that had me really hesitant was the inventory nightmare I would face without being able to use KTQue and Skillet since my Glyph maker was on one account and the bank alts would be on the other. I flirted with the idea of transfering my glyph maker to the second account but then I did some poking around with Altoholic and I saw they supported account sharing. Wait, really? You mean I can share my inventory and AH count between two ACCOUNTS? Hot damn! Altoholic is an -amazing- addon!

Three Goats and A Mule
I made three Space Goats to be my new glyph posters. A Shaman, a Paladin and a Mage. Then I setup my Bulkmail to mail the glyphs off in three sets. I chose these three sets because they are super easy for me to remember since they are the Tier token sets ;)

As you can see my Shaman gets the Warrior, Hunter, Shaman glyphs. My mage gets DK, Druid, Rogue, Mage and my Paladin gets Priest, Warlock, Paladin. So simple! In an hour my inventory looks like this:

The 4th bank alt, that I refer to as my "mule" sells everything other than glyphs and I do -all- of my buying on her.

I've been dual-boxing for almost two years now, I orginally made a second account because I wanted to be able to farm on my druid while raiding (inbetween attempts) and I wanted to be able to run myself through instances. Now I can spend a ton of time at the AH without feeling guilty about not doing achievements and I can raid while keeping up with undercuts! ^.^

  1. Great first post about your glyph business! Implementing your posting strategy as we speak...

  2. Gah, stop making me want to reactivate my second account!

Good idea with splitting glyphs in to 'token groups', was wondering how to approach this myself - mind if I use the idea?

  3. Sarainy - Of course I don't mind! ;D

  4. Thanks a lot for this post. I've been considering splitting into multiple characters to avoid the Postbox queues, but didn't have an efficient way until now.

  5. I split my glyphs up tonight and couldn't figure out how to split it up. I did RMP for the first poster and the rest on the 2nd. lol.

  6. I had to chuckle when you talked about the distance from the AH to the bank in Exodar. With my ally toons I remember that I finally moved my space ghosts to Iron Forge. Darnassus was a pain too. I mainly play Horde side these days. My main is parked in Orgrimmar, I also have toons in Thunder Bluff, Undercity, and Silvermoon. I usually have 3 bank alts, on some servers I have more. They all have access to the bank alt guild bank.

I really haven't done too much with Inscription industry. My DK is an Inscriptionist. When I have time I'll check it out and see what areas I would like to target.

  7. Wow that's so many glyphs! Do you just buy the herbs you need off the AH or do you farm everything?

Looks like the latter would take so much time! But the former seems like it would cost too much...

  8. Being a multiboxer myself.. (5 accounts - gotta love RaF) ..when I discovered Altoholic I was just ecstatic! I have 2 classes of glyphs on each account and its the best thing in the world. Nice to know I'm not the only one using that tactic. It also gives the impression that the market is flooded with scribes.. especially if you are careful about not logging them on at the same time.. or even in a recognizable pattern... assuming of course that your competition is friending you.

  9. Deimonia - Inscription, plain and simple, is a cash cow. GO FOR IT!

Anonymous - Haha, yeah this is a lot of glyphs, but that's just one of my three chars! I have two others just like that ;)
I buy all the herbs I need off of the AH. Yes, it is costly. I can drop several thousand in a few minutes on the AH, but I always make sure I don't buy herbs at a price that will result in me losing gold once all my glyphs have sold. For me, that "sweet spot" is 20g a stack.. Always go under it, never go over it.

Matt - O.O holy crap, 5 boxing!? Wow!! I flipped out the other day when I saw someone 4 boxing the AH, thankfully they only post once a week!

  10. Wow this is amazing! Thanks for the great tips. You are totally my role model, girl! (and I'm 2 years older than you, heh) ^_^

  11. Oh! I have a question for you about addons. I'm getting into the glyph market and have been doing pretty well so far (5k gold and growing). I'm actually having tons of fun with it, but it's rather a pain to cancel all my undercut auctions. I use Auctionlite for this (and Auctioneer to post) but it still take a very long time. How do you cancel all your undercut glyphs? Or do you just repost without canceling, and wait for your auctions to expire?

  12. Hey Greta!

Thanks so much for the amazing compliments you gave me, it makes me all warm and giddy inside! ^_^

I use QuickAuctions2http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/quick-auctions.aspx for my posting and undercutting. It's a fucking ('scuse the language) amazing addon. I reccomend 100% that you go and try it out. It takes a little bit of set-up and configuring, but it pays off ten-fold. I use it for all of my posting, from glyphs, to bags, to gems, to belt buckles! Belsebub wrote a great guide on setting up and using it here: http://thehappyscribe.blogspot.com/2009/08/quick-auctions-2.html

Oh and I also use Auctionator on the side for things I don't sell regularly.

  13. Oh yeah, don't forget to turn off Auctioneer when you're posting/canceling with QA2.. The scanning that auctioneer does will really slow down the process ;)

  14. Wow, I just set up QA2. This addon is AMAZING! It's going to save me so much time. Thank you so much Tella! I'll now only be using Auctioneer for scanning and snatching/random buying.

  15. Just wondered what version of bulkmail you are using? I am obviously pretty dense as I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do what you show above. is the a gui or just commands on the command line?

    really love your setup though.
